I just went on IMDB and found out that Toby Maguire is playing Venom. That's ****in' weak. I thought Venom's character was supposed to be this big buff dude. Not some annoying prick whose played the same sarcastic character in every role for nearly ten years. It was alright on That 70's Show, but try something new, man.

Well, you're partially correct in thinking this... actually, the alien symbiote (the black Spider-Man costume) can take any kind of form that it chooses. Look at how different it made Carnage look, when compared to Spidey or Venom.
Venom looks bigger than Spider-Man only because Eddie Brock (Venom's alter-ego) was bigger than Peter Parker... but then again, lots of people were bigger than Peter Parker - maybe even Mary Jane.
Another partial truth...
Carnage looks so different from Venom because the Carnage's symbiote is more dilluted than Venom's. It mixes with the host's blood to obtain mass, hence Carnage's red and black coloring.
At least that's the way it was in the Cletus Kasady days of Carnage. Nowadays I'm told that Carnage is just the symbiote by itself and it has no host. So who knows.
Eddie Brock, who is Venom's host, is large and muscular as a person in the comics. That's why Venom is so big and beefy. Venom's been exaggerated to Hulk-like proportions in some instances, but that's due to the artist that's illustrating.
Sam Raimi chose to go with a Brock that is the same size and stature as Parker to illustrate how much the same and different they are.

On the new May 2007 OXM demo disc, they have a trailer for the game included on it. To me, it looks like GTAIV might have the more realistic looking New York City when it is all said and done. Not that the city didn't look good in the Spider-Man 3 trailer, but it just looked a bit cartoony... kinda the same way older GTA games' cities looked. I think that gives the developers more liberties, as to what they can and cannot destroy.
Needless to say, I am really anticipating being able to play Spider-Man 3... I want to be able to grind Sandman's face against an oncoming subway train.
I kinda like how they made Brock more of the P.P. physique, but at the same time I hate it too. Brock has always been this big muscle bound jock whiny baby. Hopefully, Topher Grace does a good job cause I def. raised an eyebrow over that one. I guess the movies are kinda sticking more to the last Spider-Man cartoon (not that thats bad), more so than the original comeabouts of things (for lack of better words).
