Exclamation Lt. Welshy guide to Socom 3 online!
***NOTE*** The points expressed in this bulletin are based upon my OWN opinion. I am not forcing anyone to read it, you can stop at any point in time, but please do not tell me what i wrote. Beleive me, i wrote it, i know what it is.

A guide for Socom 3 online

Okay, first things first, congradulations, you've just purchased Zipper interactive's newest creation in their hit game series, Socom, U.S. Navy SEALs. This first person shooter game is a combination of skill, strategy, and the ability to shoot the living hell out of your enemies!

Online play: When you start your game, you will notice you have to option to log in to socom 3 online, dont jump the gun on this one, you've got alot ahead of yourself. You're going to want to beat this game in campaign mode, or single player in order to unlock some weapons to help you in your quest for online domination. For anyone who has played Socom 1, or 2; 3 is completely different, you still have unlockable charecters, but you must first prove yourself worthy of the guns you tote before you're allowed to use them. After beating Socom 3 on Ensign, you will unlock the SEAL weapons, Leutenant, the terrorist weapons, Commander, the GROM weapons, Captain, the SBS weapons, and finally Admiral, you unlock the coveted IW-80-A2, STG 77, Med. scope, Front grip, and ZX25 airburst. You will also unlock Ghillie suits after you beat each area of operations on commander, you will be able to use the ghillie suit in multiplayer in the area you unlocked it in, if available on the map.

Alright sailor, now that you've beaten the game, and unlocked its weapons, you have your sea legs; so lets go online!

Items every player needs
1 A FAST INTERNET CONNECTION! i cannot stress enough how important it is, without it, sorry.. no online play for you!
2 If you dont have the newer playstion with build in networking port, you will need a network adapter, these run at about $40 new, so you're better off buying a used one. It plugs right into the pannel in the back of your playstation, all you need to do is take off the little clip door, and push it in.
3 NETWORK CABLE! without it, you cant connect yourself to the internet! plug one end into your network adapter, and the other into the port on your modem that says NETWORK.
4 A headset! this is an important peice of equipment, it allows you to communicate with your team in multiplayer; just plug the usb into the front of your playstation, but I warn you PARENTS! And this is not to be taken lightly! Players use VERY vulgar language online! If you have ignored the warning label and bought your child socom 3, I HIGHLY suggest you NOT buy them the headset. They WILL learn things you dont want them to hear, and they WILL talk "trash" to other online gamers, its not a good idea. Don't do it.
5 It's not neccesary, but a credit card to verify your acount, you do not need to verify your acount to play online, it will only give you a small amount of extras such as a rank, and friends list. PARENTS! DO NOT verify your child's acount with socom, IF you decide you want to, it does not charge any money to your card, however, any serious offenses may be taken action upon by Zipper interactive.
6 It is a lesser used device, a keyboard, if you dont have a head set, logitech keyboards work fine, all you have to do is find a keyboard with a usb plug, and plug it into the front of your playstation.
Those are the bare essentials necessary for online capabilities.

Rules of conduct

Zipper has a legal page as soon as you get into socom 3 online, you have the option to accept or deny it, most people blow through and accept without reading it, READ IT! it will give you rules and guide lines to go by, and let you know how to report abuse.

The unspoken rules

1 DO NOT talk trash, especially if you are a lower ranking player, not only is it annoying, but it can get your acount revoked.

2 DO NOT glitch, glitching is a form of cheating to manipulate the game to give yourself an advantage. There was too much of that in socom 1 and 2, we DONT need it in socom 3. If you see a glitcher, write down their name as it appears in the player roster, and report them for glitching.

3 Follow the rules of the game! Many players make self made custom varients of certain games, if you dont understand the rules, ask! somone will explain them to you.

4 Leave the sniping to the snipers. Everybody and their sister wants to try their hand at sniping, it is not easy, please. unless you're a great shot and know what you're doing, dont snipe in games. if you need to train, go to rooms that say "snipe no x" or anything along those lines, they are good for inexperienced players to get better marksmanship.

5 DONT KILL YOUR TEAM MATE! I cant tell you how many times ive wanted to strangle people for teamkilling me. If somone took your kill, dont kill them, it arises problems and ruins the game for the rest of us, and for the love of god! if a team mate walks in front of you as your in a fire fight, STOP SHOOTING! back away, let them be the one to die, not you.

6 Little kids who talk trash. This brings me back to the point i made earlier, Parents shouldnt be buying their kid's headsets, and kids.. it doesnt make you any bigger of a man to be able to talk trash over the internet, if you really want to be tough, go to their house and fight them, but i dont want to hear a pre-pubesant momma's boy telling me to go **** myself.

7 DONT EVER give out ANY of your personal information to the other players, you dont know them. they can and will use it to their advantage, i.e. identity theft.

8 LAG. nothing is worse than a laggy game, if you dont have a fast enough connection to host your own game, dont. it creates lag, and every one will hate you for it.

9 Clan posers. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but not when it comes to creating a clan name and logo similar to a better clan's just tp say you're in it and make yourself look better, its an embaressment.

10 VEHICLES! No one likes bad drivers, so please. leave the driving to the better players, we're not online to play bumpercars.

11 SPAWN CAMPING! This crime is punishable by death in 21 states. DO NOT sit at the other team's spawn zone and kill them before they get a chance to defend theirselves, it makes you, and your entire team look bad.

12 Hiding behind explosives. This is another thing that really annoys me, when people load up with grenades and lob them across the level without so much as a clue where they're going. that is not the propper use of a grenade. Grenade bombing makes you look like a coward, too scared to actually come face to face and shoot.

13 SMOKE! I can understand if you're being shot at by snipers and need to get to cover quickly, smoke is a good releif, but when you throw smoke in front of one of your own snipers, they have the authority to put a bullet between your eyes. They cant see through the smoke either, so avoid it at all costs.

14 Mines. Anti vehicles mines belong in the road, and anti personnel mines belong concealed in a footpath or doorway, but for christ's sake, CALL OUT where you're laying your mines.

15 Spray and pray. This is the practice of running and shooting non stop, when your team is attempting a stealth operation, it gives away your position, and they want to kill you. it is not an acceptable action, EVER!

16 CAMPING! when you stay in one area and jump out to shoot people, you're camping... it is a legitament strategy, but you wont do it when you realize how annoying it is when others do it to you.

lol. I guess that guide is pretty cool. Except for the fact that most of us have been playing the game for quite some time. Also, I played the game for months before beating the Commander, Captain, and Admiral on single player. Good guide for the absolute beginner.

This wasnt much of a guide but more of a complete listing of the grivences you have with the game. Dont tell people not to do things because you dont like let them play their game and have fun with it. It is a game not a lifestyle

I am fully aware of that. Keep in mind that I'm not forcing you to do anything.

tbh, from what i read of it, your telling n00bs not to do anything till theyre good at it.

And how do you get good at something? by doing it.

I'm fully aware you didn't force me to read it. But i did, and i'm telling you, i dont agree with most of it.

Oh, and theyre hardly 'unspoken rules'

Most of them have over 50 posts on them in the ionline bit.

But safe to you for writing this, it does help n00bs to not look like, well, n00bs.

I understand that this is a guide, a roadway into showing fellow Socom players that are starting out a new beginning on Socom, but a guide: Something that serves to direct or indicate is something practically different then what you (above) stated. I understand that this is your personal guideline, and that it's what you personally think should be followed, as for rules and such, but Lieutenant, do you actually think someone will abide by this guide you've originally posted? Your guide is poorly submitted, most of what you've brought forth is unuseful data. Exiting out the rules of how to hook up your PS2 system to the internet, and how to apply that. But, your rules are filled with (no offense) stupidity. I don't think I have ever seen a poorer guideline, I can see so now, that you wouldn't make it that far if you were instructed to teach a group of soldiers how to understand the basics in combat battle tactics till this very day. Now, this is all my opinion so understand that and don't get overly upset, nor' overly fashioned with what I have stated, anyways though..I would ask to get this guideline revoked/removed because, only a downsized adult/child would be stupid enough to have an interest in following Lt. Welshy's guide to Socom 3 online.
