Hell no. I have a head set and I never used it for single player it is a pain in the *** to use too because you have to say the commands just right or the AI will not preform them.

If you do not plan on going online then I do not think buying a headset is a good investment. However if you plan on going online in the near future (which I would recommend doing because that is where most of the fun is at) I would get the mic.

I think the headset is worth it, I haven't yet set up my playstation online yet so I use the headset for single player. It's much better to hear your team mates through a mic, so I would reccomend getting it. Also:

Do you actually get to say the commands? On the PAL version you have the selection on commands to press.

You have the standard selection of commands, you don't actually say them unless your online.
On Socom II you could say the commands into the mic and your AI team would do them like "Bravo move to Delta" or "Fireteam fire at will"

I never tried it on Socom 3 because I hated how it worked on Socom II. I guess hearing the commands through a mic might make it more realistic but I don't really care about that.

With a mic on single player, you tap O, then say all the commands through the mic.

As said, I would only buy it if you wanted to play online...

Not worth the money for a hadset just for single player, you don't need it.

^^AGREE^^

When I play single player, I just take my mic out. It's too much of a pain to repeat yourself 6 times when enemies are 3 feet from you.
