Confirmed Combined Assault for PS2
Well at the sony news conference the sony president just confirmed that Socom Combined Assault will be launched for the ps2. I know eb games had it under ps2 but it was really never confirmed by sony. It will be just like the previous socoms but now with single player online. So what do you guys think about another socom title coming out for ps2 when ps3 is around the corner?
I think zipper is spreading its self to thin and needs to concentrate on one big game for ps3. They have a huge team working still on s3 and its map packs and constant issues. Then a team for combined assault and a team working for a ps3 title and not to mention psp titles. There were many cool demo videos shown at the e3 socom booth for combined assault that should be on the web soon. Better graphics, but looked exactly like s3 just with different maps and characters

I am adding some things to your post so people can see more in this popular topic..-Mr~Pan

This Socom will be what socom 3 shouldve been with all new maps including co op and the old maps(expansion basicly) it will be on official sites soon

Improved AI, for the enemies and team members have improved a lot, they are now faster and much more responsive.

There are 15 missions in the campaign mode. You and four players can jump online and play together. To play others.

When you get Combined Assault, you will be able to play with people on SOCOM 3.

In addition to Combined Assault it will have its own unique maps.

There is a single massive area of operation were the entire mission you take part in, will take place.

Because we have a single area of operation we were able to have a single unified story arc.

So we have been able to do more in this SOCOM.

Now well actually have a few missions with twist and turns, to keep the player guessing to what is going to happen.

This next posts shows how Socom 3 and Combined Assault will work together online.

Later, Bob goes to play one of the new maps from Socom Combined Assault. Jim can't follow him because he doesn't have the new Socom. Bob tells Jim to get off his a55 and go get the new game because it rocks.

I know its just kind of annoying scrolling through pages of info to see if this has been posted already, the E3 announcements just started and it was the first annoucement I heard saying it was a ps2 title. I know people thought it was an expansion pack for s3 or a ps3 title. But no, its a ps2 title and basically just like s3 with alittle better graphics, sound, driving, new guns, characters, but the video at e3 which was pretty long and showed almost a full map, becasue they showed this new type of truck driving around a large map, I guess for offline, but like i said it looked just like s3 but with a new map.

ok first and foremost, how do you know this? did you see it on the web, are you actually at e3 right now, did you hear it on socom3, or what?

secondly, it's no suprise that combined assault is a ps2 title. zipper is giving us something to play until the release of s4 because i can almost gurantee you that it will not be a launch title for ps3. plus, zipper also understands that with a projected price of somewhere between 500-700$ not everybody is going to rush out and buy a ps3.

there's going to be a rather large percentage of people not buying the ps3 due to the initial price, the pay to play, and also some just waiting to see if the ps3 has any major bugs like the xbox 360 did at launch. zipper is looking out for these people and since i'm one of them i appreciate that fact.

Im watching the sony news conference live, the first thing they listed were upcoming ps2 titles and there is also a huge socom booth. There are many game reporters conducting interviews with the socom team. Your prices are off, where did you get those prices, did you interview the sony pres, did you write him an email? But I think its a bad idea for sony to come out with a new game right when the ps3 is coming out. People are looking for a next gen socom game, not a s3 part 2. S3 would then be very short lived if they feel like they need to come out with a new socom game that quick, I think they relized s3 was way too rushed.
If people have any questions about ps3 they are showing alot of games and giving some good info. so far a game called 8 days and resistance the fall of man look sick

Actually, his prices were pretty close. They announced at E3 that the PS3 will be $500 for the 20 GB PS3 and $600 for the 60 GB PS3(that also has a few other extras).

Sony continued to release many of their popular titles for PS1 after PS2 came out and they still sold pretty well. A lot of people can't afford the PS3 right away so they might as well put out PS2 games that will sell.

Thumbs up
It sounds kool to me that another Socom title is coming maybe they can have all the bugs worked out for online play. When it does come out I'm sure people will complain about it also, I don't believe Zipper can make everyone Happy because there's always going to be someone complaining. Combined Assault sounds like it's going to be a great game and I'm looking forward to it.

Something I would like to see, but will probably never happen is when CA is released they include a mail in rebate along the lines where you send in the upc bar code from your copy of S3 and you get an "upgrade" rebate. Kind of the way some software and game companies do now when they release update/expansions. I know some people are going to say, it's a new game. It really isn't. You can play all of the original S3 maps + the new ones that will be included. In essence you are getting S3 without the single player(which people only suffered through for the unlockables anyway because it royally sucks) So technically that makes CA an update or expansion. I know a rebate or discount will never happen, but hey you can always wish.

And yes they will still continue to release PS2 games probably into 2008(just my opinion) I say this because there are xx million PS2's and like WARLOCK said a lot of people will wait/can't get a PS3. But I disagree with him about zipper looking out for people. If they could get a PS3 version of socom ready for launch best believe that it would be released no matter how many bugs the ps3 could have. It won't be a launch title because they are going to ride the ps2 versions as long as they can while they work on the ps3 version because the stakes and our demands are going to be a lot higher now.

I feel that zipper relized that they rushed s3 and that there are way to many bugs/mistakes. Why come out with a brand new game so soon? While CA will have everything S3 had but reworked for bugs and what not. Its like we bought something that didint work right and now we have to buy it again. I believe sony did what they could do with the ps2 hardware, 4 socom titles is enought for the ps2, there was good change but very little in game play and graphics. They need to concentrate on new gen systems.
