Every week we have a new thread posted in this section where someone is either asking for help or giving advice to people who want to learn to snipe.

I have asked DaKilla if he would sticky a thread about it, but he is rather busy and hasn't gotten around to it yet. So if another mod would like to step up and sticky this thread I would appreciate it.

If you have any tips or tactics to pass on to those members who would like to hone their sniping skills, please post them here.

here's my first tip, know when and when not to use the thermal scope. some levels you really need to, others it goes either way, and some just plain never! btw, that could be differnt some werid people but this works for me, here's a rundown, plz lemme know if i missed a map:


Death Trap:

Seal: Never uses thermal scope, easier to take out their snipers.
Terrorist: Mostly never, unless you are really good INSIDE with it.


Sujo:

Seal: Sometimes, it varies depending on how the terrorist are playing, rushing and moving a lot, go for it. They are camping, I won't use it then.
Terrorist: Never, just find a spot with some good range and be creative, they won't expect it


Sandstorm

Seal: Yes, but I suggest the sr25sd, a hard map to get use to sniping on.
Terrorist: Usually, unless you find that perfect spot and get use to picking out bodies


The Mixer

Seal: NEVER ever use it, you can see across the level without it, just learn the terrorit's spots.
Terrorist: NEVER ever use it, you can see across the whole level without it, duh!


Abandoned

Seal: Use it here, find a nice protected spot in a good area and snipe away.
Terrorist: Use it here, find a nice protected spot in a good arean and snipe away


Rats Nest

Seal: I usally use it with my sr25sd.
Terrorist: If you snipe use it, I suggest learning the SASR.


Enowapi

Seal: Same thing as Sujo, base it on the terrorist game plan. If they are rushing or hiding in bushes use it (with sr25sd), if they are sniping, don't use it.
Terrorist: Never, you have nice range from up top and can snipe out key areas of the map with it, as well as in the base area (up top duh!)


Blizzard

Seal: Sometimes, here it's really a matter of what works. I usually use my sr25sd with a thermal.
Terrorist: Sometimes, here it's really a matter of what works. I usually won't use it and pick off seals using it.


Night Stalker

Seal: Same as blizzard, whatever is working better and base it on the terrorists game play.
Terrorist: Same as blizzard, whatever is working better and base it on the seals game play.


Frostfire

Seal: Never, no reason to.
Terrorist: Never, no reason to.




Please let me know if I forgot a map or too, I may have, but the above works great....sooo...use it and stuff![/b]

My tip:

-Whenever you're sniping - calm down. I always see people get anxious and fire too soon, thereby screwing themselves.

-Also, crank up your sensitivity and lower your dead zone if you plan to snipe regularly because when they are moving very fast and such, you wanna be able to move your sticks to keep up.

-Aim for chest.

im going to have to disagree with you "cold" maps. The thermal scope already cuts down distance and since it is cold the people are not that hot so their body temp is lower making them not as orange as they would In a desert level that seems hot like sandstorm. So with it your cutting down so much distence but without you can be lethal because alot of people have not found this yet (none that I play) and i always get them because they cut off so much distence....sujo I never use it becaus you need to be able to hit key spots like chicken coop air breash from the roof by the fruits. and yeah its just not really needed...=/

You see someone...call them out

If they are just crouched/prone/standing there then take the shot, if you miss call him RIGHT away.


If you see someone running or they just passed around a corner, call em out right away, maybe theres some near them, also, try calling them outin porportion to your teammates (i.e. DaKilla he's on your 6 (behind you)). Or he just went around that corner to your right Wetworks, just like that.



I cant stress it enough CALL THEM OUT

the only levels u really need a thermal would be shadow falls or abandoned because it is too dark to even see people.

but like someone said before you need to be patient and only shoot if it is a good clean shot and wait for it. i see so many people waiting for a good shot then shot at the very last second and just shot off a round hoping to get him just wait and call the guy out once you either miss or loss sight of the guy

also like the guy aid before always go for the chest unless your using an sr25, sasr, or m40 cause then u need a head shot

there is no reason to use the m40 and sasr though you want to use the large riifle unless you need a powerful gun where you need to stay hidden inwhich you want the sr25sd

plus if you snipe someone or get sniped from a certain place dont go there again for atleast 4 rounds because the other team will be looking for you after a good round or continue to look in the same spot where he got you last time

again be patient dont just shot at a guy 20 times just to kill one guy it wont work wait for a easy shot same with a handgun wait till your right behind someone to shoot them unless theve already seen you

also when you can lie down to snipe to conceal your self better

HUMMMMMMMMMMMMM??????????? well well well you guys have some ideas i agree with and some i dont.......for starters i am currently ranked a about 78000 (Lt.C.) when i started playing this game awhile ago i tryed the snipeing thing and found i sucked something really feirce at it..... But just recently i have ventured back in to the sniping groove...for the last 5 days i have not played a single round with out useing a sniper rifle!!!!!!!!!!! I am NOT KIDDING AT ALL!!!!!!! the first day was really rough i couldnt seem to even kill myself correctly. but i keep at it and the second and third day i was seeing improvments MAJOR improvments... i went from getting (2-9) 2kills and 9Deaths... to an impressive if I do say so myself (14-4)...........so if ya suck then just sit down chill out and do NOTHING BUT SNIPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the thermal issue now thermal is one really nice feature to the sniper rifle but not nessecery u could (LIKE I DO) never use it. but my feelings about it is everything anyone has every said about the Thermal Vision just totaly forget it. Grab a sniper rifle throw some thermal on it and try it for ur self.. thats the only thing u can and should goo buy cuz alot of ppl dont know wtf they are even talking about.......

My final Thought of the post is DONT LISTIN TO ANYTHING ANYONE HAS TO SAY ABOUT UR SKILLS AS LONG AS UR TRYING TO GET BETTER. AND IF ANY ONE EVER SAYS ""DONT SNIPE THERES NO REASON TO"" or if they say this level isnt made to snipe on then SIMPLY TELL THEM TO F*** OFF CUZ NOW I KNOW I CAN SNIPE AND WITH EXTRME SKILL TOO ON EVERY SOCOM II MAP.................. JUST REMEBER KEEP AT IT AND DONT LET ANYONE GET U DOWN AND EVENTUALY U WILL BE F****** ALL OF THEM @$$HOLES UP....................................GOOD LUCK

i personally only use thermal on frostfire, i dont need the range, so its for kicks, but i still dont normally grab it. i was never told that the thermal scope was not good, i found that out on my own, i used it once, and thought that a sniper should see farther. i forget it one game, and am amazed by the range increasment, and can still pick people out of bushes. may just be me, but i hate it. try them both, see what kind of a sniper you are. some people are long range, antisnipers (me, i used to be ranked 40,000 sniping and getting better, than rank up came up, even when i prided myself on being one of the best snipers out there. i would use my friends captain name for a bit, because it became unobtainable, so i quit sniping), i use an m40, get where i need to be, pick off a sniper or two, pistol whip some people, and move on, easiest part of the game there. then you have antirushers, the big ole' .50 cal, pop the runner in the um... anywhere, and get a kill on some idiot. then you have stealth, you sit hide, and shoot alot. it can be fun, but i dont get my fun. find your thing though, and choose accordingly.

Well for me when i have to play SHADOW FALLS i dont even play I just look at the sky (the stars) and run around........ jk

most of the time i just sit and wait. This totaly pisses off my leader but it all goes away when we WIN
