Select the detonator from your inventory and press fire.
The best (and only) clay-usage i have done in s3 was in a Devils' Road small game. Terr would keep rushing up the mountain and I would simply wait with clays. Their range is much better in s3 so it was always an instant kill.

I have a question, for people that have used them, in real life. Can you use them, in shallow water? Like on the edge of a stream/pond? Say, about 2' deep? If so, I hope they make it so it can be done, in the game.

Claymore Ownage
clays are the best man...on devils road(small) when u spawn as a seal if u go on the trail thats on the left side of the map nd u go through there nd where thers that boulder on the path nd the grass.....u set up the clay in the gras where they cant see it when coming up nd u hide behind the rock nd when sumones is almost over them u blow their @$$es to hell or if u go a little bit further where it bends or turns to go down the hill u plant it right around the corner where u can see it from behind the rock...i did that i got like almost 20 kills just from that in a 10 minute round..if u need any more spots to put clays up hit meup

I personally think if your going to use claymores get about 8 of them b/c they can go very quick if you don't blow it at the right time.

I tried what CIC said. The other day, I was playing Citadel, and planted two M2 mines, next to the red room. And just to the side, I planted a Claymore. The first time I did it, I got three kills, with the M2's, that the Claymore set off. And I got a couple more single kills, with the M2's/Claymore during the rest of the map. It was really funny, people wondering how they got killed with M2's. And I bet this would work well, with M2's and a Claymore when you're trying to blow up a vehicle, that doesn't quiet run over the mines.

Got my first claymore kill
Pretty damn cool.
sniper only no cross game, terrorist jerks kept crossing through the mountains on the left.
set up two sets of claymores, both along the trail. two came at the same time and BOOM! :D no more crossers.
thanks for all the suggestions, i'm a definite noob, but am now forever hooked on trying to get this to work again.

So, here are some suggestions if you want to mess with them and diversify your killing repoirtoire.
First Round - go ahead and put a claymore right out in the open covering naarow passages or doorways. They are so rarely used that no terrorist looks for them and they will run right into it, easy kill.
Second - Fifth Rounds - vary placement in the same area, instead of putting the claymore in the open, walk up to the doorway or archway and stand against the wall and face back inside. Place the claymore against the wall facing the interior, so the terrorist won't see it running in and when you blow it, it will take him in the back. Or, place one outside the opening, covering the entrance.
Sixth Round on - up to this point they have kept coming back because they are frustrated at being p^wned by a claymore, but will probably admit defeat (telling themselves what a noob you are and it isn't worth it). Move out and find a new spot, closer to the action, your claymore work is done and you will be amazed how long it takes someone to try that approach again.
There is something really satisfying about claymore kills, give it a try.
Please post your suggestions for claymore tactics.
