Updating to the New PSP Software

I was searching the Playstation.com website, and noticed a link to update your PSP software. I had always thought that you had to have access to the internet on your PSP (threw Wi-Fi) or buy a game that has the update. While surfing the PS site, I noticed that you can download the update FREE!

When you go to www.us.playstation.com , you will notice a PSP tab near the top of the screen. Click on that, then there will be a menu on the left side of the screen. Under the heading "PSP Support", the first link should say "PSP Update". You click on this and it will take you to a screen, click "download now"
In order to do this, you must have the connector that connects the PSP system to the computer, or a memory sitck slot on your PC. You can also have a memorystick reader/writer.

It says that you must create a new folder to save the update under. You must do this using you computer and make the files on your memory stick. I will say that you need to have18 MB of memory left on your Memory stick. You will delete the information after the system is updated. You would go to "PSP". Then create a folder called "GAME", after, create another folder called "UPDATE". You must create the files as stated above or the system will not notice the update.

After following a prompt that pops up on the screen, you have to agree to the Terms in order to download. When you click download, you have to select a place to put the file. Put the file in the folder in which you created before. After the file is saved, you then exit the USB Connection (If your using you PSP), or put the memory stick in the system (If you used something else).

You then go the controller looking thing, where you start the games. Then you scroll down as far as you can go, where it show a little memory stick image. Hit "X" and then you will see the update.

After selecting the update, it will show the screen when you start up a game, this is normal. After a couple of seconds, you will have a few prompts that you must follow. It will tell you what features will be put on the system. Select start. The update takes about 2 minutes to complete. You must then reboot the system by hitting "X''.

You then select the update under the controller image and then the memory stick image. You hit triangle, and delete to delete the update. You memory stick will now have the memory that it had before the update downloaded.

I didn't find anything then I used the search, if this was posted already, I apologize.

Thanks for the heads up, man. After reading this, I went and updated the firmware on my PSP... went from a version 2.50 to the new 2.60 deal.

It will search for the newest version, if you have a Wi-FI in your house, or within the area. This is basically for the people who do not have a Wi-Fi, as I do not.

A little off topic but you can also enable your psp to play WMA's (not just mp3's anymore), you need a wi-fi connection, unless it's in the same spot that the updates are in. Just go to system settings, enable WMA playback and it will connect. I don't have a wi-fi at my house anymore so I just took my psp to the local bagel shop and there were 10 networks to choose from.
