Why Socom 3 is Unaddictive, Not Fun, and Just not the same!!
I know alot of us want to admit and try to defend our beloved Socom 3, but if your like me then you've faced the fact. Socom 3 just doesn't bring what Socom 2 did. I don't know if it should be accounted to the HUGE MAPS Vs. Small Maps......or maybe it should be 16 total Vs 32 Total.
Wait no can't be those cause in Socom 3 you can have small maps and a limit so its 8v8.

It must be the ACTUAL MAPS! The maps in Socom 2(X-Roads, Night Stalker, SUJO, Guidance, Blizzard, Fishhook, ect.) were just addicting and great. They really were a major part that made you so addicted, you'd feel hungry for hours but couldn't leave your couch for one minute to get that bite to eat. Another Perk that Socom 2 had was better gameplay...Now I really don't know what made the gameplay better but some element of this gameplay is missing from Socom 3. I mean we dealt with horrible hit detection and other major problems on Socom 2 because even with these problems the GAME WAS ADDICTING AND FUN! With Socom 3...ehhhhhh Not SO MUCH. Im hear to basically say.....Zipper ****ed up with Socom 3. I've had it since launch and ever since that "New Game Smell" wore off of it.....I've come to realize its ****.

With Socom 2, I HAD to play the game nightly like I was a OCD patient and it was a ritual of mine.

With Socom 3, I felt like "This is Socom, why am I not having the usual urge to play?" So I would force myself to play a few games on it.

Maybe having a WORKING Rank System like Socom 2 also "helped" with its level of addictiveness.

Anyway to wrap this post up, I don't have either right now cause I sold my Socom 2 after I got 3, and I sold my 3 once it started to suck. I really need something to fill this "void" in my life. Im hoping that Ghost Recon: Advanced War Fighter for my Xbox 360 will fill the void. But once again I think I need to be serious with myself....SOCOM > ANY OTHER SHOOTER MADE.

I have my fingers crossed that Socom 4(if made), will go back to what made Socom 2 the best Shooter I ever played. Im PRAYING IT WILL!
Until then, Im trying to get my hands on a copy of Socom 2, and a network adapter for my PS2.

Thanks for reading and goodnight.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to write about was........the waiting in Socom 3 is definitely one thing that does ruin it. Let's say you have 2 bad rounds....you're dead within a few mins, Well guess what you're now gonna wait 5 mins and then another 5 mins just waiting to play again. The fact that each round almost always goes the full time is a joke and was never a factor in socom 2(Maybe in ShadowFalls with some campers).

"Working rank system"??? Are you serious? Neither game has a working rank system with the "evolution" of cheating (aka ranking up) that shows up after it is mass released to the public and has the time for people to crack the code.

Hope you don't wind up wasting $60 on a 360 game that you already feel is inferior to a SOCOM game.

Keep your fingers crossed that there will even be a SOCOM 4 (ya just never know sometimes)... until then, I will be enjoying SOCOM 3.

What... did you only sell your network adapter for trade-in credit on your 360 at your local EB Games/Gamestop?!?!??

I dunno what to say other than perhaps you shouldn't get killed so quickly during battle??? Please don't think I am trying to be rude or insensitive, but I mean really... I can't think of any other way to say it.

SOCOM 3 is more fun because you have ground vehicles to mess/travel around in. They also give you the option of having large and small maps to have games in... then there is the not-so-new SOCOM option of tuning the amount of time in a round. (Basically, S3 has even more room options than SOCOM 2 had.)

The included option of having unlockable goodies earned through the single player mode for multiplayer was another good addition that SOCOM 3 has over SOCOM 2. Then add in the fact of having even more online unlockables via linking up your copy of S3 to the PSP version of SOCOM (aka FireTeam Bravo).

Also... hit dectection in SOCOM 3 > that which was found in SOCOM 2.

I dunno about you... but in my (humble) opinion, it is heads and shoulders better than SOCOM 2.

I'm going to agree with you for the most part. Normally I wouldn't respond in a topic like this because they all go down the crapper real fast. But since you actually took the time out to clearly state your mind....I state mine as well.

Socom3 is a tremendous improvement over socom2. They did a whole hell of alot to improve everyone's gaming experience. That is why it's hard for me to say that it sucks. I do NOT like playing socom3 and I only seem to have fun in small respawns with friends just screwing around. I can't usually stay in a normal room for more than a few rounds without bolting outta there.

There was something about socom2 in between rounds that socom3 just doesn't seem to have. I used to enjoy yapping and planning strategies for the next round, etc. For some reason in socom3 after I die it almost feels like I died in real life.

I can't explain this phenomena and I have given up trying to figure it out.

Summary...
Socom3=huge improvement=boring though

I completely agree with you...

SOCOM II had something that made me want to play it, i needed to play, if i got mad and shut it off it took about 10 seconds to turn it back on and sit there mindlessly for another 2 hours.

With SOCOM 3 i can't ever play for more than a half hour... its just not fun.

There is absolutely no sense of fun in this one. Sure the vehicles and huge maps made it fun for a week or two, but after the nostalgia wore off, and you get down the the nitty gritty of the subject, the game flat out falls 10 fold short to the addictiveness of SOCOM II

I will both agree and disagree with you. Let me start off by saying Socom 3 does not suck. It's a good game. I love it. But at the same time, I believe it's almost a totally different game. However I do believe that the maps in Socom 3 aren't nearly as addicting as in Socom 2. What is Socom 3 missing? I think it's a major inner city. Think about it. What if, Devils road, instead of having a dinky inner city, had a big inner city like the entire Crossroads right in the middle. Same goes with Crucible, and that other huge dessert map I don't like. That's what I believe it's missing. The map size is fine, I enjoy the vehicles a lot. And 32 vs 32 makes it a lot more fun. All the online message boards is an excellent addition, the fact that any map can have can be a demoliton respawn, or at the same time a ranked Suppression keeps the game interesting and new. This is my opinon on why many people don't like Socom 3. It just doesn't have enough interesting detailed buildings to hide in/camp in like the fishmarket, or wall corners to sneak around. This doesn't make Socom 3 a bad game, just a different game. Your a fool for buying xbox 360, It's a waste of money and a hunk of junk. The graphics and gameplay are not even much of an improvement and 99% of the launch titles suck. My suggestion, sell your suXbox 360, re-purchase Socom 3 and give it another chance. If what I hear on this site and a couple others is true we may get to see our beloved maps from Socom 2 and maybe more once the PS3(w/HDD) is released.

Well, I got on S1 a couple months after it came out, good game, but got pizzed at all of the cheating. Bought S2, got online, loved it. Got S3, love it more than the prervious 2 versions. If I get bored, I change it up. try a small respawn, or a big respawn, or a small ranked, or abig ranked. Or a demo, extract...you ge tthe idea. Could it be you guys are unwilling to try something new? Get with a clan that plays alot.

I dunno, I am MORE addicted to 3 than I ever was with 2. Hands down. Yeah, there are bugs I'd like to see cleared...mainly the friggen glitches. It's what turned me off of S1.

Why isn't Socom 3 as fun as Socom 2? Because of the stats not working right. I loved socom 2 for the stats... looking at random peoples stats, looking at my brothers, and my clan mates stats.. It was just the best thing about the game. Not to mention they were easy to access, like wtf is up with the community thing, where you have to search for peoples stats? it's just stupid. You can't even look at them from the clan page. It was just a stupid idea that Zipper made, and it's just not working out. Like how are you even going to recruit? Unless you know them personally, you have NOTHING to go on because the stats are mostly incorrect.
I just don't understand how, on the 3rd edition of the series, they could just **** it up. I know many others don't feel this way, but this is what made the game for me. Hell i could give a rats behind about my rank (other than i fact i can't join any rooms in Canada East, and i have to play in Enlisted ranking rooms), all that matters is the friends you play with, and then turning around and laughing at their stats.

I like Socom 3 way better. If you don't like the long time that you are dead, play in small maps with like 4 or 5 minute rounds. There are so many different ways to play now, it can fit everybody. If you ask me, I did have a way funneer time on Socom 1, but when you think about it Socom 3 is much better. In Socom 2 I didn't get that addiction like everyone else. I'll tell you on Socom 1 I played at least 4 hours a day, I'd skip school to play it, and so on. Socom 2 or 3 don't give me the same feeling. I still think Socom 3 is better than Socom 2.

I haven't played S3 in three days.
As of right now I feel dizzy , weak , and nausea.
I would probably fail a roadside sobriety test and go to jail because the piggy wouldn't understand I'm going through S3 withdrawals

Here is how i see the series...

Socom 1: codebreakers edition
Socom 2: glichers 101
Socom 3: campers "The great indoors"

A few of my main gripes about S3 arent really the ones most are complaining about. I really dont care much about my rank, infact i feel its ruining the game. I would much rather just have stats without the rank applied to it.

One main thing i cant stand is the fact you cant go into an ALL lobby and join any game you feel like it. There are no settings to change what ranks are allowed into your game, so why are there restrictions saying "Your rank does not meet the requirements". That alone makes no sence. I almost want to kill my rank so i can play with the majority of the population. If your a commander or higher, there are hardly anyone on at any given time, so it makes for a dull night.

I wish they would change the game back to how it used to be in S2 when you could be the last man and draw out the game. Because they changed it to whichever team has more men at the end, that team wins. This has caused a major camping issue in this game. Its either camp from the beginning of the round or run out and kill a guy or two, then hurry and run back to the spawn and camp. I didnt mind trying to hunt down the last few remaining guys left, that part was fun if you ask me. But being the last guy with 4 on the other team sitting waiting for you to come get slaughtered is just horrible. There used to be a time where even if you were the last guy, the action kept going. People were still running around trying to find you. The last guy still had a chance to win the round, but now its just next to impossible unless luck is on your side.

M203's, GL's, and Airbursts should just be taken outta the game. These wpns are so extremely cheesy i dont know where to start. I dont know how many times i have been killed by someone with these wpns and they kill themselves in the process. When that happens, you know they are just using that as their gun and nothing else. They took out the nade launchers, what they should have done was take all these out, attachments and all.
