I never really liked the ra-14. For single player I just used the m16 the whole game. I could snipe and get head shots and then in close quarters I was able to rip on the terrorists. I never used an automatic while player singleplayer for some reason.

The only time I ever ran out of ammo was with the M40 (the marine sniper rifle) on the first South Asia mission (I think it was the first, you start off in the SOC-R against a series of islands and then move up river). The rifle only carries 5 shots per clip for 25 total shots and there were more than 25 enemies (all head shots) before the first checkpoint when it reups your ammo. I had to swap for a terrorist AK47.
for me the only good use of the RA was for 'run and gun' type missions where theres quite a few enemies in the area where you don't have time to scope them out. other than that, i just use the m16 or some other gun that has a decent range on it and scope enemies out and headshot them..it seems like it takes more bullets to kill someone offline than it does online (unless you headshot)
I found running and gunning was much easyer with the Sniper rifle and the pistol. The sniper rifle is great for open spaces and the pistol is good for the buildings, paths and tunnels.
