Exclamation Verification/ Error Codes/ Router, Mic fixes.
To stop all the confusion:

Credit Cards are needed to verify your accounts in order to enter into the officer ranks, and to create/join clans. The game is NOT pay to play, however they want to verify your account to eliminate misconduct.

No more topics should be made. Thank you.

You need a Credit Card Number to verify your account, not to create it.

Verification of your account allows you to:

Join/Create Clan
Use Friends List
Use Autoplay
Challenge/War Clans
Advance into Officer Rankings

Updated:
You CAN use Debit Cards to verify your accounts
Nothing will be charged to your Debit/Credit Cards

Thanks to Stupifier:

We wanted to know why SCEA and Zipper were having people submit their personal information. We called this number and they answered our question: 1-800-345-7669. You may find this number on page 2 of your socom 2 manual. (I don't have s3 yet...) It is very easy to call and find out, so I would encourage you to post this on one or more of your credit care issue stickys/announcements. I believe this would be beneficial for anybody who is concerned. Thank you for reading.

E-mail from Sony about Verifying. Thanks to Captain!

Sony Computer Entertainment America ("SCEA") does not charge a fee to play SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs
online. You can enjoy SOCOM 3 online without paying or supplying a credit card. However, please
note that if you wish to verify a SOCOM 3 account, you will be required to enter a valid credit card
number during the account verification process. The credit card is used for account verification
purposes only, and you will not be charged to play SOCOM 3 online.

By verifying your SOCOM 3 account, you will gain access to some of the advanced features of SOCOM 3
online including:

- Clan and Clan Challenges
- Rank and Leaderboards Listings
- Friends Lists
- Autoplay

When you successfully complete the verification process for SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs, SCEA will
authorize your debit/credit card for the amount of $1.00. While you may see a dollar amount
authorized, we do not actually charge the card (deduct any funds). Please keep in mind that your
bank may still place a hold on the dollar amount according to their own policies. However, the bank
will release the $1.00 back to your account within a few days and you will be able to make other
purchases using the authorized amount. Please contact your bank/credit card company for details on
their policies and procedures regarding authorizations.

The authorization process is a confirmation that the personal information provided to create the
username in SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs is valid, and is used to prevent the creation of falsely

Official Error Thread
Warning! Some of the server error fixes may not work for you, but they are proven to have worked for at least some people, and thats why I have them posted here. If anyone has other ways to fix problems, I will update this thread with more information... just PM me or post it here.

If the fix here doesn't work for you:
Call Sony, (800) 345-7669, and hit 0 to speak with a live person.
Tell them you are having a problem getting online for Socom 3, or a problem with downloading the Socom 3 patch. They will redirect you to a specialist and that specialist will walk you through your problem, until it is fixed. There is always a way to fix the problem... don't cry and post that you hate us and cant get online 50 times... call up Sony! If what Sony says helps you get online... then come back here and tell us the fix! It will be much appreciated

Patch Errors
For a complete patch summary go here:
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtopic.php?t=33982

Error in memory card, download may be corrupted
Continue to log-on and download the patch again, overwriting the last one. Make sure your memory card is in slot 1. After overwriting, you will need to restart again, and the next time you connect to the internet you should be good to go.

Game Errors

Rank Doesn't Show Up
We don't really know how to fix this one, but some people say the following works:
Create a new room
Join a clan
Play some ranked games
It seems to be just coming back at random to people, the problem is probably being addressed by Zipper at the moment, so just wait it out.

Join Game Error
Usually just caused by the room you are trying to enter being full. If the room is not full, restart your PS2 and proceed to log-in and play again, it should clear up the problem.

Network Errors

If you are having problems connecting, or get any “Network Error” you should try this first:
Check that you have an Ethernet cable plugged into NETWORK connector on the Network Adaptor.
If you are using a switch, hub, or router, verify that it supports Network Address Translation(NAT). **Note: A firewall is not a connection issue. A firewall should not prevent you from getting a successful connection test. You might have problems connecting to servers when you are trying to play a game.
Verify that you have entered the correct User ID and Password for your ISP.
Check your IP Address: If you have a Static IP, verify that your IP Address, Netmask, Router Address, and DNS Address information is correct. If you have an Automatic IP, verify that your Host Name is correct if required by your ISP.
Shut down the modem for one to two minutes. Restart the modem and connect the Ethernet cable to the Network Adaptor. Then, attempt to create a Network Configuration file again.
Test your connection and Network Adaptor

Connection Test Failed
Turn off the modem by unplugging the power cord from the modem for two minutes and then plug it back in. Wait for the modem to warm up, and then attempt to create a Network Configuration file again.
Verify with your ISP whether or not they require the MAC address of the Network Adaptor to be registered. To obtain the MAC address, run the connection test and when it fails, push the SELECT button. The MAC address will look like this: 00:04:1F:03:9E:9E. If the test does not fail, it may be necessary to unplug the Ethernet cable from the NETWORK connector.
If you are using Automatic IP, check that a DHCP host name has been entered
You might need to release the IP Address from your PC first. If this is the case, you will need to reconnect the modem to your PC. Follow these steps to release your IP:

For Windows 95/98/ME, you will need to run WINIPCFG command:
• From the Start Menu select Run.
• Type WINIPCFG.
• From the menu that appears click the button labeled RELEASE.

For Windows 2000/XP,
• At the START menu, select the RUN command.
• Type in COMMAND and you will open a DOS box.
• Type in IPCONFIG/RELEASE and press the ENTER key.

Once this step has been completed, disconnect the modem, turn the modem off and then back on, reconnect the modem, and attempt a connection with the Network Adaptor again.
If the modem was provided by your ISP, you may want to call your provider and ask if the modem is locked to the PC. If the modem is locked, ask for procedures to unlock the Ethernet hardware address
You may want to consider purchasing a router. A router is something the ISP will recognize more readily and can create a bridge for the Network Adaptor to connect online. In order to connect online with certain ISPs, a router is necessary.
Ping your ISP, test your connection and Network Adaptor

Network Adaptor Not Found/Hardware not supported
Turn off and unplug the PlayStation2 system. Verify that the Network Adaptor is installed correctly. Verify that the mounting screws are not overtightened because this may cause a connection error. Plug in the PlayStation2 system and run the Start-Up Disc again.
Turn off and unplug the PlayStation2 console. Loosen the mounting screws with a coin and remove the Network Adaptor from the console. Inspect the console connector on the Network Adaptor rear (the part that actually connects the Network Adaptor to the PlayStation2). Are the pins all in-line? If the pin connectors are not in-line or are damaged, the Network Adaptor will not operate properly.
Are you using a non-Sony Network Adaptor (like a USB Adaptor)? We do not support 3rd party Network Adaptors and cannot guarantee their functionality.
Test your Network Adaptor

Ethernet cable not connected to a network
Verify that your Ethernet cable is securely connected to the NETWORK Connector of the Network Adaptor. Check that the other end of the cable is securely connected to the modem/router.
Make sure that the modem is turned on and is not in standby mode.

Network Error (-612)
Create a new network configuration and try to log-in using that, if that won’t work the problem is usually related to a firewall or network with closed ports, go to the following site, find your router, and follow the instructions: http://www.geocities.com/jimbobjoe14580/dmz.html

Server Errors

Server Error 2
Take your game out of your system
Put your memory card in slot one
Go into your memory card, and delete any previous attempt to download the patch. (Socom 3 symbol, size 2999)
create a new internet configuration (mainly if you have had yours for a longer time period)
Go through the log-on the long way
Download the patch, ignore any errors.
Then you are going to have to reboot.
Log on the long way again, download the patch again, say overwrite the last one.
Reboot the playstation again.
Log-on and you should be playing.

Server Error 9
Internal problem with the server, after happening Sony/Zipper fixes it within 24 hours, so try logging in periodically.

Server Error 29
The solution seems to be just log-in again, just a connection error which should work the second time.

Server Error 36
You first need to start by creating a new network configuration, by logging in the long way.
Under DNS Server Address Setup, choose Manual. In the next screen, put one of the following IP adresses in the Primary DNS:
192.168.0.1
192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1
Attempt to log-on

If that doesn't work, it may be that it isnt the correct IP, so try all 3. If it still doesnt work after that, it would help to call your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and ask them for the IP address of a good known working DNS server. Use the number they give you as the primary DNS.

Server Error 38

I set up an address reservation in my router so that the PS2 will always get 198.162.1.3 as an IP address. I think that was the problem that it had a different IP than the first time.

Anyway I was able to get online without the server error. I have a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. Hope this helps others. I may not be correct on the reason this error happenes but I really do not think that it is on their end because I have talked to others who were able to get online while I could not.
Server Error 39
Physical problem with server loading. The issue will allow no one, or very little, people onto the server, and can only be fixed by Zipper/SCEA/Sony fixing the server. The only solution is to just wait it out.

Router Fixes & Mic Complaints/Discussions
Router Fixes
Before we begin here are some links about routers which are worth looking at.

http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtop...er=asc&start=0

1. Linksys' WRT54G Router Mic Fix (Credit: c0mmand3r)

Before we begin steps!
Step1: Click on the link below. This will bring you to the Linksys page for downloading new Firmware for the "WRT54G Version 5" router. If you do not have this router do NOT download the firmware. It will either not work or could screw up your router if you do not own the WRT54G. Click on the firmware link then click download firmware and save the file to your desktop for easy access. Unzip the file then let it sit there.

FIRMWARE LINK

Step2: Open your internet explorer or web browser. Type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of your web browser. A window will appear asking for your user name and password. If you have not configured your router or are not familiar with this router control panel, simply type in "admin" for your password and press enter. Go to the Administration tab at the top of the router control panel. Once under Administration go to the Firmware Upgrade sub-section. Click browse and find the unzipped folder you downloaded to your desktop. Use the file named "WRT54Gv5_fw_v1.00.4_us_code.bin" within this folder and select it. Click upgrade and let your router sit (do not touch anything) and complete it's upgrade. Once the upgrade is completed scroll to the bottom of the router control panel and click Save Settings. Confirm your save then exit the router control panel.

Step3: Now reset your router by pressing the orange button on the back of your router labeled "reset." After the router reset you will need to completely shutdown your modem (either unplug it or turn power to off). You should also unplug the power plug to the router to turn that off aswell. After 30 seconds reconnect the router power plug and wait 5 seconds for it to boot back up. Then reconnect or turn on your modem and wait for that to completely boot back up to online mode. Congratulations you are ready to begin the steps to get your mic working perfectly on Socom3!

If you did not get your internet connection back for your computer after the above steps you need to type this into your browser: www.linksys.com/connect <-- that will reconfigure and connect your router by itself pretty much. You shouldn't have to access it though, if you followed my steps.

Actual Mic fix step by step!
Step1: Press the Start button in the bottom left hand corner of your screen. Go to "Run" & type in cmd in the blank field then press enter. A black window will pop up. Do not touch anything. Simply type ipconfig/all and press the enter key. A list will appear. In the lower half of the window you should see your IP address among other things. Remember the last two segments of your IP address. For this step by step we will refer to them as ".x.x" at the end of the IP address. The IP address should read 192.168.x.x in this window. Once you have those digits close the cmd prompt window.

Step2: Open your internet explorer or web browser. Type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of your web browser. A window will appear asking for your user name and password. If you have not configured your router or are not familiar with this router control panel, simply type in "admin" for your password and press enter.

Step3: As soon as the router control panel opens you will be under Setup > Basic Setup. Scroll down and you will see DCHP Server with two options, enable and disable, to the right of it. Check off enable and enter the last segment of your IP address from the command promt in the blank field.

Step4: At the top you will see different tabs to access. Click on the Applications & Gaming tab now. You are automatically sent to Port Range Fowarding. Stay in this section of the Applications & Gaming tab. There are a total of 10 lines here you should see. You need to fill out the following information for the first 5 lines. Read carefully.

ORDER - Line#: Application | Start | End | Protocol | IP

Line1: S3 | 10060 | 10070 | TCP | Fill in Last segment of your IP address
Line2: s3 | 80 | 80 | TCP | Fill in Last segment of your IP address
Line3: Socom3 | 7000 | 8000 | UDP | Fill in Last segment of your IP address
Line4: SOCOM3 | 10070 | 10070 | UDP | Fill in Last segment of your IP address
Line5: Socom 3 | 50000 | 50000 | UDP | Fill in Last segment of your IP address

Once the five lines are filled out check off enable next to each one. Afterwards, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Save Settings, then confirm your save.

Step5: Still under the Applications & Gaming tab, go now to the DMZ sub-section. Check off enable. Now, in the blank field enter the last segment of your IP address from the command promt yet again. Once you complete this step, scroll to the very bottom of your router control panel and select Save Settings. It asks you again if you want to, confirm to save the settings.

Step6: Boot up your PS2 and login to Socom3 via the Main Menu (X) from the start up menu. When you come to the Choose Network Configuration screen select Edit Configuration. This will bring you to the Network Configuration Menu for Socom3. Select Add Configuration. Go through the steps until you come to the IP address screen. Select Manual. Go to the next screen and you will see the following lines below. Fill in the information listed then continue to the next screen.

IP - 192.168.x.x (Enter your IP address you found in the Command Prompt for this)
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Router - 192.168.1.1

Step7:On the screen after the above one you will see a screen requesting your Primary and Secondary DNS numbers. For this step you will need to open your Router Control Panel (type http://192.168.1.1 into your browser). Go to the Status tab of the router control panel. You will be automatically put into the Router sub-section for this tab. Here you will find near the bottom DNS 1, DNS 2, and DNS 3. For the primary DNS number type in DNS 1's corresponding number. For the secondary DNS number type in DNS 2's corresponding number. Continue through the setup until you come to the connection test screen. If all goes well you will pass the test. If not, shutdown your modem and router for 30 seconds then turn on the router then the modem and wait for them both to come up to online/functioning modes. Try the connection test again. Name the configuration whatever you like then exist the Network Configuration Menu.

Step8: Socom3 will load up and bring you right back to the Choose Network Configuration screen. Select your newly created configuration and login. You should not get any error messages. Create a room and have a friend join, or simply join a random room, to test whether or not your mic has been fixed.

Congratulations you now have a working Mic for Socom3 without any sacrafice of your internet access for your computer

2. NETGEAR Router Mic Fix (credit: Incision)

Ok, I bought another router for my bedroom that is attached to my other router downstairs. I set it all up and found that the router did not let me use the mic. At first I was like ****, but I read up a little and tried something since I could not find my PS2s IP since I only have one cord to share with my PS2 and PC at the moment. So what I did was:

1. Go into Socom 3 and at the network menu before you sign on you can edit your connection. Click edit connection and go through until you see the IP settings and It will say Auto or Manual.

2. Hit manual and it will show IP, Subnet, and Router. Fill in like this:
IP - 192.168.1.40 (does not have to be 40 but I suggest it)
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Router - 192.168.1.1

Note: If you are not useing a Netgear router you may need the IPs to be 192.168.0.1

3. Next you will see DNS Primary and Secondary. For Primary just put your Router IP from the previous step. And leave Secondary blank.

4. It will then have you test it and if It doesnt work redo the previous steps. If the test works then you are done with the PS2 settings.

5. Now open Internet Explorer on your Computer and type it 192.168.1.1 (If you have a non-Netgear router it may be 192.168.0.1) and on the side you will have Wan Setup or something similar. Click it.

6. Now in Wan Setup you will have a section for DMZ and it will not be checked and there will be four boxs next to it. [192] [169] [1] [_]. Check the box on the left side. Then the first three boxes will be grayed out and you can't edit them. Then in the final box put 40. The 40 is from the IP setting you set to your PS2 in step. Remeber if you did not use 40, then use the number you did use.

7. Apply those settings and then you are done. You should be able to use your mic online. If it does not work you either did a step wrong or your router is not the problem.

I hope this helped you all! Good luck!

3. A Second Netgear Router Mic Fix (Credit: PONCHO9)

Iv'e been reading alot of posts about people with problems with their mics that are using netgear routers. I figured out what to do.

1. Do EVERYTHING that this guy said in the first post.
http://www.socom3.com/socom3/viewtop...hlight=routers

2. Go to your netgear router (usually routerlogin.net)

3. Go to port forwarding

4. Add custom service and fill in the information as shown.

service name- SOCOM3
serice type- TCP/UDP
starting port- 1
ending port- 65534 (or whatever your last port is)
server IP- 192.168.1.40

5. Apply

6. Restart Network
unplug DSL modem
unplug router
shutdown computer
plug in modem
wait 2 minutes
plugin router
wait 1 minute
turn on computer/PS2

Even though you are opening up all of the ports if you have a software firewall (Norton, etc.) you will still be protected.(Routers will have a harware firewall) If you do not have any other firewall, I do not sugest you do this unless you are really desperate and want to use your mic.

As long as you do everything stated in the link and then follow the instructions you should be able to use your mic online.

4. Dlink's DI-624 Router Mic Fix (Credit: Evil Merlin)

Have you tried the Dlink web page for help. Go to http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1468#604.

I have the DI-624 and have 3 ps2's running socom 3. The only time i have a problem is when one of the three ps2's are the host.
Here are the steps from their tech support.

Step 1 Make sure you have the latest firmware for your router.

Step 2 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default).

Step 3 Click on the Advanced tab and then click on Firewall on the left side.

Step 4 Create a new entry:

Click Enabled
Enter a name (socom2)
Next to Action, click Allow
Next to Source, select WAN from the drop-down box and enter * in the first box. Leave the second box empty.
Next to Destination, select LAN from the drop-down box.
Enter the IP address of your Playstation in the first box and leave the second box empty. ( enter a range in the second box if multiple PS2's are hooked up)
Select UDP for Protocol Type
Under Port Range, enter 6000 in the first box and enter 6999 in the second box.
Click Always or set a schedule.
Click Apply and then click Continue.

5. Online Ports/Router Setup Information (Credit: Drako_MDS)

I don't play SOCOM 3 but I do setup routers. I just finished setting up a router for my next door neighbor and had to open ports for this game's MIC to work. When looking for the correct Ports for this game I noticed how much of a pain it was so I called Tech Support. These are the CORRECT ports you'll need for the game to run properly.

Ports Used by SOCOM 3: (They are all Confirmed)
TCP 10070 - 10080
TCP 80
UDP 6000 - 7000
UDP 10070
UDP 50000
USE PORT FOWARDING ONLY (Not Trigger Port)

Example of a Router Format:
Software Name/Starting Port - Ending Port/ Port Type/IP Adress

Use Port Fowarding for SOCOM 3:
SOCOM3/10070 - 10080/TCP/IP Adress
SOCOM3/80 -80/TCP/IP Adress
SOCOM3/6000 - 7000/UDP/Ip Adress
SOCOM3/10070 - 10070/UDP/IP Adress
SOCOM3/50000 - 50000/UDP/IP Adress

Here's a Screenshot of above example:

http://www.mdxops.com/modules/copper...utersetup2.jpg

To Find out what IP you Router has given the game just run Connection Test on Game Config and look at the results. Use that IP if needed to open the ports.

HOPE THIS THREAD HELPS YOU GUYS... Good Luck

6. Di-604 Router Fix (Credit: Drako_MDS)

I was PMed on how to setup Di-604 so I figured I should share my reply with the rest of you:

D-Link

On your Di-604 it's actually quite easy.

1. Go into your routers Menu.
2. Hit the Advance Tab on the top of screen.
3. Now go to the Application Tab on the left of screen.
4. You'll have to do 2 setups to get all the ports so fill in the following Blanks:

Name: SOCOM3 TCP
Public Port: 10070-10080,80
Public Type: TCP

Name: SOCOM3 UDP
Public Port: 6000-7000,10070,50000
Public Type: UDP

This should do it... now go out there and have some fun.
------------------------------------------

7. Setup for DMZ on most Linksys Routers (Credit: Drako_MDS)

This is another PM I replyed to today and I decided to share with the rest of you.

How to setup DMZ on most Linksys Routers for SOCOM.

Like I Mention before, for some damn reason the DMZ option on these routers works more like a Static IP.

1. Make sure you do all your Port Fowarding on the Application and Gaming TAB. Use the original example to guide you in filling out the blanks. Remember only use Port Fowarding Option Only.
2. As an IP address put whatever last digits you want to use.
3. Now goto the DMZ section of Application and Gaming, Check the Enable DMZ and also add the same last digits to the IP you just added to the Port Fowarding section.
4. Now goto the Status section of your router and look at the Primary and Secondary DNS. Write those down in a paper. Also write down the IP you chose in the DMZ/Port Fowarding section. (These two should be the same IP) Don't worry if your router only shows one DNS, it's OK you only really need one. You'll also need t make a note of the Subnet Mask. It's the 255.255.255.0 or whatever.
5. Launch the game and goto the connection settings. When asked about an IP chose Manual and fill in the blanks with the info from #4. Save the settings in game and lauch it.

That's it, you're done. Have fun!

Man, Sony should Pay me for all this Tech Support...LOL To think, I don't even play this damn game.
------------------------------------------

8. Static IP Information (Credit: -pride)

I figured the DMZ wasn't working for the wireless router, so I started investigating how to start up Static IP's. This is what I came up with:

Click on the Start menu, and then click on the Run option.
When the “Run” window opens, input control netcpl.cpl into the “Open” field, then click on the OK button.
When the “Network” window opens, locate the TCP/IP for the Wireless or Ethernet adapter in the PC, and click on it. Once it’s highlighted, click on the Properties button.
Change option from Obtain Automatically to Specify and input:
IP: 192.168.1.20 (If there are multiple computers being setup with static IP's, then the next computer would be .25, and next would be .30, etc)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Firstly I would have to change the DHCP to Static IP in the Router settings. Then save the changes then go to the PC's.

Since I have 2 Windows Machines, i'd have to go to each one of their Network windows and make each one 192.168.1.20 and 192.168.1.25

Now for the PS2, correct me if i'm wrong, but i'd go to the Edit Network Config and change my IP (old DMZ Host IP) to say 192.168.1.30

I have another PS2 which the mic doesn't work, i'll set up another Static IP for it. If i'm missing something, please let me know. I'm going to do some more reading at work, then go home and do it. Thank god for a slow work week, i'd never get any work done :D

Your Router is Discontinued so they don't offer the manual for it anymore. But I checked its predecessor and a few other D-Links and most share the same layout on the User Interface. If you go to page 2 of this thread I've already explained how to setup a D-Link. (They are all similar) Just incase, I'll further explain how to access your router through your Web Browser. Make sure the computer you're using is connected to your router before starting.

This Should Covers Most D-Link.

Open the web browser
Type in the IP Address of the Router (http://192.168.0.1)
Type admin in the User Name field
Leave the Password blank
Click OK

You should now be in the Routers User Interface.

1. Hit the Advance Tab on the top of screen.
2. Now go to the Application Tab on the left of screen.
3. Make sure you put a check on the Enable Box.
4. You'll have to do 2 setups to get all the ports so fill in the following Blanks:

Name: SOCOM3 TCP
Public Port: 10070-10080, 80
Public Type: TCP

Name: SOCOM3 UDP
Public Port: 6000-7000, 10070, 50000
Public Type: UDP

Once you've filled in the information make sure you click on Apply.

This should do it... now go out there and have some fun.

Please feel free to post your fixes or thoughts/opinions within this sticky. I will add all fixes to the list.

K what about Network errors?
Hey All,
I am trying to log onto Socom 3 for the first time and having some grief with what comes up as a " Network Error (-612) Which is no response from the DNS server.

It also telle me to check my network configuration. Now I have checked some of the threads here and have not really found anything that describes this problem but I am thinking it has something to do with my Linksys router, and the built in firewall.

Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

Dave
