I have had good games with all the sniper rifles in the game but especially the l96. I had a terrific game with it and I also love using the m8 sniper rifles. While the SASR and SR-25 can be equiped with silencers for stealth reasons there are ways to be stealthy with the .50 cal snipers.

WOW. I just got finished playing with the L96AW. It is CRAZY. I HIGHLY recommend this, as mentioned before, as an offensive rifle!

I prefer the sr, and sasr on certain big maps like harvestor. But if Im playing on some smaller maps I like the m82. and the m87. I have never used the L96, but Im going to have to check it out now that everyone seems to have good things to say about it.

It really depends what type of player you are and how long you've been sniping.
If you are a stealth player, obvioulsy, you want the SR/SA with a suppressor.
If you are offensive and like to move around, I would suggest the L96AW. It is light for the type of power it has (Not as much as M87 or M82). I would equip it with a medium scope, no bipod, so you can at least have a decent pistol and some frags, as mentioned before. The L9 is also the most accurate rifle in the game.
If you like to stay back, grab the M87 or M82 with a high scope.
I, personally, never use the 12X when sniping. It either doesn't zoom enough, or zooms too much.
And, if you are just starting to snipe, grab the SR/SA since they are semi-auto. Build up your accuracy and then move up to the single shot rifles.
Also, it's always good to have a spotter with you. A spotter is someone that can provide silenced cover. They are also good for watching your back and it is always good if both of you have ghillies.

SASR
Pros
Can be silenced
Can take 12X scope
Accurate
Low profile with and without silencer
Weighs less that 50 cal rifles
Cons
Doesn't outrange 50 cal rifles
Takes 2-3 shots 4 a kill unless its a headshot
SR-25
Same pros and cons as SASR but the SR-25 looks better
M87ELR
Pros
Very long range rifle
1 hit kill most times
Can take 16x scope with variable zoom
Can take a fixed 12x scope
Cons
Loud as f***k
Can be seen going off a long way away
M87ELR High scope and Bipod weigh too much
M82A1A
Same as M87 but more accurate

I agree with $ilent, The L96AW is the most accurate Sniper rifle in the game. Also it is light-Weight, powerful and plain cool looking.

If I'm going to snipe I use the L96 exclusively. I HAVE used the SR's w/SD but mainly as a longer range assault gun although they're also great using thermal on the 'water' maps.
I have also, on occasion, got miffed at somebody and grab the SR w/noSD just for spite.
;^)
P.S.
The Barrett (mike82 for those who don't know who the mfr is) has better stopping power against light vehicles, just like in real life.
more ;^)

I use them all depending on the situation. For power I like the M82 more than the M87, (I seem to have less of those annoying times where you hit a guy but he doesnt go down.) I like the SR-25 over the SASR for stealth, but only reason is that it can use a med. scope. And for accuracy I like the M40, it is very steady and seems like I can pop out anyone's eyeball within 125M. The only con though for the M40 is that it's farthest scope is the 12x wich I cant stand.
