Clan Ladder (Continued)
Check the "Last edited by Casper at" on the bottom of this post to see if there is anything new added since you last visited.

OK, sorry for starting a new topic, but I wanted to start anew with my ideas. Before you read on, please note that if you could refrain from posting things like - "Oh cool, I'd like a ladder." and "Yeah! A ladder would be an awesome idea." - it would be appreciated. I would like only those who are planning on contributing to the ladder to post here.

If you have suggestions for things to add to the ladder, post them here as well, as it would make them easier to find. Please be as detailed as possible in your suggestion, so we can avoid getting sidetracked on modding the ladder, before we even get it build.

Anyway, below I will list what I know can be done with my coding experience, a good book and a little google-ing, and these are only the particulars. I left out small details, and some things will require some fine tuning, but they are the roots.

Beta ETA
The esitmated time of release for the Beta is 2/14/06. This date is subject to change at any time. It is soley based on the progress I have made and at the rate I have made it.

Site:
New Domain Name
Hosting

I can provide both of these free of charge. We will just need to decide what the DN will be. Also we will have to decide what the site will feature. Will it only have a ladder?
No phpBB DB - I will not use phpBB simply because I am not that good. Those guys eat code for a living, and I can't code to their standars. I can modify the code pretty easy but, something of this size, well you get the idea.

Games:
1 vs. 1
2 vs. 2
6 vs. 6
9 vs. 9
12 vs. 12
16 vs. 16

I did a lot of thinking on this last night. As I said in the other thread, adding more groups will add more code, which will add more thinking. I am more than willing to commit time to do this, but please, if you're not helping don't rush me.

Crew & Staff:
3 Ladder Admins - These are the guys/gals that will be in overall charge of everything. Making sure that the ladder is functioning properly.
  • Cheesy
    Conversd1
    Casper
3 Moderators - These guys/gals will make sure that things on the ladder are OK. As in there are no usability issues. And will be more user involved than the admins.
  • erg
    ...
    ...
3 Referees - Just to make sure that all disputes get handled in a timely manner.
  • Discombobulate
    ...
    ...
5 Support Staff - These guys/gals should be able to be online at intervals and such, that way if there is a member of the clan, or regular user that has issues, they can handle it quickly. You need to remember how critical everyone is of GB.com, and try to make sure we don't end up there.
  • ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
^^I would like to get some non-Socom3.com clan members here, so that we can remain bi-partisan

Clans:
No More Than 32 Members
1 Clan Leader
1 Roster Manager
1 Assistant Manager

Clans Point System:
Clan Points
Clans Will Have 500 Point Minimum (Start)
Battle Percentages
All games will record their own wins/losses, i.e.
  • 1 vs. 1 = 4 wins 2 losses
    9 vs. 9 = 0 wins 1 loss
    16 vs. 16 = 7 wins 2 losses
Cumulative Clan Record = 11 wins 5 losses
Each group has it's own win/loss percentage change, i.e.
  • 1 vs 1 = 1%
    2 vs. 2 = 2%
    4 vs. 4 = 4%
    6 vs. 6 = 6%
    8 vs. 8 = 9%
    12 vs. 12 = 12%
    16 vs. 16 = 15%
All points being changed from clan total.
Example:
Code:
Two clans both starting out with no games played will have 500 pts. a piece. Clan A is victorious over Clan B in a 9 vs. 9 battle. The point change is:
Clan A = 545 pts.
Record = 9 vs. 9 = 1 win 0 losses
Clan B = 500 pts.
Record = 9 vs. 9 = 0 wins 1 loss.

Clan A challenges Clan C who has 500 points with no games played to a 16 vs. 16 battle. Clan C is victorious over Clan A. The point change is:
Clan A = 500 pts.
Record =
9 vs. 9 = 1 win 0 losses
16 vs. 16 = 0 win 1 loss
Clan Record = 1 win 1 loss
Clan C = 582 pts.
Record = 16 vs. 16 = 1 win 0 losses
Players/Members:
Must Be Active For At Least 24 Hours
Can Only Be In One Clan

Battles:
Maps Picked Randomly by Ladder - You can have maps chosen by AI, which will also choose who plays what side. Winner will receive a 25 point bonus for choosing this option.
Maps Chosen By Clans - Callenger can choose 1 map to play, and what side you wish to be on. Opponenet can choose one map, and which side to play on. AI will choose 1 map, and challenger will choose which side to play on.
Both of these map options will include all features available on separate maps, i.e., Night/Day, Big/Small, Convoy/Extract/etc.

Ladder Rungs:
This is the thing that I think will make things interesting. The ladder will have "rungs" which will be based on the point system - not games played. Each clan can only challenge clans in their same rung. We cuold show the ladder leader, and other interesting things, i.e., who has held the top postition in separate "rungs" of the ladder.
Novice
This is where all clans will start out.
Reserves
Clan must have 750 points.
Active Duty
Clan must have 1,500 points.
Officers
Clans must have 3,000 points.
Special Forces
Clans must have 6,000 points.
Elite
Clan must have 12,000 points.
You could keep going as needed this way. And there would be no limit to what you could stop at. Standings could require some change.

That's what I have for now, please feel free to post comments on changes , or things we should add. I would also like for someone to come up with some rules. They will be important in the development of the code as well. I hope we get some useful contributions to this, as I've said before I am willing to commit my time to this project.

As soon as we get some conrete information down on who will be part of the crew and staff, I will get the ball rolling on hosting and such.

OK, I have set up the testing server on our clan's current website. Also, I have begun the constuction of some coding and migrated what I already had over to it.

Should have some good code up in a little bit, depends on whether or not my phone stops ringing, and I get any walk-in's. Anwyay, I need to know who's going to help with the layout/design of the ladder. This is totally separate from what I'm doing, and would help the process along greatly. If I have to do that as well, it will prolong the process.

So, in short, who is going to come up with the basic design for the ladder. Bare in mind, that it will be changing as the ladder evolves, but it will be good to get a stylesheet (.css) made.

I think Cheesy is going to make the structure, he'll probably do it today or tomorrow

are you planing on having randomly generated maps or allow the clans to pick the maps and maybe have a randomly generated tie breaker map only.

I know that some people prefer not to have the randomly generated map and maybe you can code it to allow either/or...

alos a few nice additions that my not have been stated would be a match finder?

No, I'm not baffing on the "GB System", I'm just stating it's inaccurate and does not pose significant "skill" level for clans.

You'll be impressed once I organize my thoughts and post them come tomorrow or Saturday. As of now, I'm tired and a little peeved at work. Will post soon. Look forward to it :) .
Cheesy had some good ideas, I don't remember the particulars, but I remember thinking "Damn, that sounds sweet" when he was talking about this forever ago. So, he should have his thoughts organized soon enough.

As far as the domain, Veins does own www.Socomclans.com which I believe he said he would sell in the other thread. I'm sure he wouldn't ask for too heafty a price, considering the ladder is pretty much a part of the site.

Staff wise, I'd gladly be a part of the Support Staff as well. From what I can see, they are really just the user friendly kind of people that can answer questions and such. People often IM me as a ref on gb simply for questions, I could do both.

And I might add, damn good job already on this everyone. We are really taking off with the idea.

Edit--

A match finder is almost a necessity, but if Veins were to add a forum on here for the Ladder, then we could have a forum for just General Ladder discussion, then probably one for Matches. People looking for matches, practices, whatever. If we had that, we might not really need a match finder.

I don't like the whole idea just 6v6's or just 16v16's it will be so much easier if it was like a 1v1, 2v2, then like 3v3-8v8, then 9v9-16v16.

Also the 24 hour thing doesn't really make sense.

I'm pretty sure he's saying that people must be in a clan for 24 hours before warring, which is a necessity to prevent ringers.

Id love to help out with the forum if it was set-up. I dont set-up forums like c0mm, but I think I can do a pretty decent job. Because like I said I spent alot of time on the forums so, that and helping out with the ladder would be ideal for me.

yeah but if a ringer is going to be used its goign to happen, people make ringer names just to give out to other clans... so its really pointless, has been since socom1

report time shoudl be no more than 1 hour after the match is over
