Dark Side Of The Moon vs The Wall
Two albums by Pink Floyd.... Anyone have any opinions about either of the two? Which one do you like more?

I say Dark Side of the Moon. Brilliant and amazing as ever.

I mainly like Dark Side of the moon simply because if you play that along side while watching the special edition of The Wizard of Oz, they play in tempo with one another. It's awesome!

At the MGM Lion Roaring thing, after the third ROAR, play the CD. Remember to have the CD at the start of the first song and on pause before doing so.

OMG where do I start with this one....

First off, they are two ENTIRELY different concepts and a comparison between the two is just not possible. I'll try my best to speak about each..

DSOTM
Quite possibly the most succesful album of all time. 34 years old since it was written and it STILL stands the test of time. The songwriting is top notch and the experimental use of "computers", gadgets, and tricks made them the forefathers of "alternate" sounds.

As for the TRUE genius behind the album.....(the following is intelligent speculation based on my near mastery of all that is Floyd)

This was there moment in the sun and the album that made them tremendously rich. For all the glory they got as a result of its perfection and success, there was also a price that was paid. It was around this time that the band members started to strongly feel that Roger Waters was an annoyingly arrogant perfectionist who while wrote great music, had no rhyme to his reason. While DSOTM was being written and recorded, Waters was VERY strict about timing, placement, etc to the point where it drove everyone mad. I could picture it....
Gilmour - "I'd like to play this solo over 8 bars and gradually build up to the next tune"
Waters - "Sorry David but you can only play the solo for 4 bars and you can't play any notes in the second bar but you must play 3 long noted right after the 3rd bar but make sure you hold that b flat for 3.5 seconds after the 4th bar ends.
Gilmour - "Whatever you say boss"
::Glimour lights joint, plays what Roger says::

Of course everyone knows about DSOTM and The Wizard of Oz. Pink Floyd denies ANY connection about this and I almost believe it. But I can guaranfukintee that Waters wrote this album TO synch up with the Wizard without letting the rest of the band in on it. This would explain why Waters appeared like such an egotistical perfectionist while everyone else just thought he was a d1ck. IMO, there is NO ****ING WAY that the DSOTM/Oz synch is a coincidence. NO ****ING WAY!

So taking all that into consideration, DSOTM truly is a work of art that to this day has yet to be topped.

THE WALL
After DSOTM in '73 came Wish You Were Here in '75 and Animals in '77. Animals was the LAST album to feature the band as a whole. Richard Wright was booted for personal reasons (cough nose candy cough) and everyone set out to record their own solo albums. During this time, Roger Waters wrote 2 possible projects for a Floyd "comeback" album. These two selections were presented to Gilmour and Mason to pick from. The Wall was one and The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking was the other. I remember reading somewhere that Gilmour really liked Pros and admitted that its music was way better than the Wall, but The Wall had a much more exciting stage presence.

As for the Album, it obviously is in the same league as DSOTM for what it did as a concept. The songs were mainly written from the heart of Waters and dealt with all his "demons". It was an awesome album, concert, and the movie just plain rocks!

To answer the question that was stated in the topic, I have no idea which I'd say is better. A question like that is just like choosing between two gods on judgement day. I'll take both please.

On a side note, if anyone is still reading, then you deserve to be told of a great truth that many are unaware of. (no I didnt save any money by switching to that stupid insurance company that makes me sick with all of its annoying commercials that we are all forced to watch and hear over and over and over again so STFU)
Like I was saying, if you think the DSOTM and The Wizard of Oz is amazing, you HAVE TO watch the end of 2001 Space Odyssey and listen to the original version of Echoes which is the last song on 1972's Meddle. All I can say is OMFG.

Sorry for the rant

Nice post, Boba, made for a good read.

Me own personal preference....DSOTM

I'd probably have to take another listen to "The Wall," but all in all, I got such a better feel from DSOTM. (don't ask what that means)

Love the Wiz. of Oz and DSOTM thing....great way to pass time, if you haven't done it, I absolutely insist....even if NOT under the influence of illegal substances....I just love how when you meet the "Good Witch" it's in the middle of the horn solo from "Money".....With the way the backround looks, and the music playing, you could swear it was a 70s porn....Plus the little munchkin guys moving to the bass line, perfect....

Anywho, the one thing that stands out above all, already mentioned by Boba....."stands the test of time"

One of my father's gripes about music nowadays....Look at all the stuff that survived from the 60s and 70s and still gets insane radio play today....Can't say that today's popular stuff will still be alive and kicking 30-40 years from now

Just amazing how the standards for music have sunk so much, but then again....it's just an opinion
