You’re screwed, to finish your sentence ;). Anyway, unlocking both the med scope and the ghille suit is a very smart idea on some peoples part, and even if you don’t snipe (wusses ). As for new tips, don’t only prone when you snipe. While it is good, it also leaves you very exposed. Lets say you’re a terr. with a ghille suit, and your prone in a bush with a silenced SASR. Joe SEAL comes along and gets owned by you. You decide to stay in that particular spot. Now, on most levels, SEALs can get around terrorist spawns. If someone sees Chewbacca feet sticking out of a bush, they will definitely come up, point blank, and put their M8 to your skull and blow your brains out. A smart (not good, smart) sniper will learn to combat head bob, sniping while leaning, and even sniping under fire (very fun to do, I might add).

-To combat head bob, got to your offline options and go you your personal configurations. There, you will find an option to turn the head bob off. When you turn it off, your bobbing (when you’re in scope, your rifle kind of “bounces” around. This is called head bob or rifle bob) will not be as severe, online and offline.

-For those of you that snipe, it is always critical to constantly adjust your aim. Your crosshair will move a lot, and if your controller is old, I highly suggest getting a new one. My analog sticks get stuck sometimes, so sniping for me is a bit challenging, but possible. Moving targets are hardest to track, obviously. Always take terrain into careful consideration when tracking moving targets.

-If a SEAL/Terr is right in front of you, don’t pull out your pistol. Attempt to so scope him. I was playing Devil’s Road, convoy a week ago, and a SEAL rushed me around a corner. I had my M82 out, so I said “what the hell?” and pulled the trigger. The dude just falls to the earth right infront of me. I must have done the Russian dance on him 50 times. It was so sweet

Please keep adding to this thread, and I appreciate AL sticking this!

why would you want to be using head/rifle bob in the first place? are there advantages to using it?

IMO the 50cal sniper rifles take more skill when compared to the SR. The curser moves way to fast you have to get the right shot, as apossed to the SR where you can shoot him a good 50 times before he knows were you are at. Anyone can camp with an SD sniper and kill people. Go ahead Use the 50cal in socom 3. Gauronte its harder then the SR sd.

IMO, I think the hardest sniper rifles to use are the L96AW and the M40A1A because they have neither the one hit kill or the silencers. I use these guns all the time because of their accuracy, but other than that, they are at a huge disadvantage. I find them to be the ultimate anti-sniper-sniper rifle, but they are at a loss against infantry.

The L96AW and the M40A1A are my favorite to use. I know it not a one shot kill. Thats why you got to wait for the right shot. They dont have any kick to it either. The 50 cal's have huge kick and it hard to get back on your target. But when the infantry comes your kinda screwed with any sniper, unless your godly with pistols

I was just going to post this. I went in to a respawn last night with nothing but a LA69W and a 9mm pistol, and DESTROYED the room! The LA69W is sooooo accurate compared to its other unscilenced counterparts. Anywhere around the neck to the head area is a kill. Pretty good if you ask me.

As for the 9mm pistol, that is farily acccurate. Put a laser on it, and you have the perfect side arm

Yeah, Mostly I use the M87ELR and M82A1A for one shot kills. But if I'm at night or something I use the SR. I'm good at getting the drivers and crap.. This guy tried to run me over, I brought out the scope and shot the crap out of him out the car. He was mad in the lobby. It was priceless lol.

here's what i do. i always use a sasr, or sr-25 silenced, w/12x. when i'm looking at vehicles, i have to zoom back to 1st person. i see there line, where they are moving to, and zoom back in. when they get into that range, i can still follow them, if i can't get the shot lined up, and that usually works. i didnt snipe in socom 2, so this is all still fresh to me. i know someone mentioned going for the driver first, which is always a good idea, but if you can't' hit the driver of course you go for passengers and gunners. potentially saving some of your teammates about to get involved in the mid/close range combat with that particular vehicle. ghili suits are fantastic, i always use them, but i'd also like to mention, everyone has said "use a building" "use a bush" etc., when i'm picking a spot, i'm thinking, would anyone think to look for me here? do i get a good open view? there are a few maps where, as much as you'd think it wouldnt work, i lay on the water line, looking down the coast, plain as day, but anyone coming at me, i'll see a mile away, and i got a nice open view of several other key locations in the map. it's always good to have two snipers together. usually i'll follow a sniper, and not sit exactly next to him, but close enough so we're a few feet apart. i look at the opposite end. he's watching my back, i'm watchin' his. if anyone does make it to us, two pistols shooting is better than 1. but also on any given map, if i find 3 or 4 spots, that i can be successfull in, i stick with them. i decide wether the spot that particular round has become "hot" by how close any of my kills were to it, and if so, i go to my second spot. if not, i'll stay there, why not? and after you've exhausted your 3rd or 4th spot, i'll go back to 1 or 2, and mix it up. anyone looking for you, even if they're following you that closely, knows at this point, you have 3 or 4 different spots, so they gotta check 3 or 4 different places. the best is, when your 2nd 3rd and 4th spots, all overlook eachother, so when someone goes to look for you in spot number 1, you get an easy kill. anyways, maybe this is something that everyone already does, but atleast for me just starting to snipe, took me a little while to get the feel for. so if it helps anyone else out just getting started, then i've done my job

i'd also like to add, i see alot of people discussing the differences between the silencers, and the osok guns. i go with what's going to be the easiest for me to get kills in that particular map. i can appreciate someone with skill, but, if me, in my sniping infancy, can pick off another sniper, that really get's me going. who cares if i had a better rifle than he did for that map? who cares if he has more skill, i killed him that time. all the skill in the world doesnt matter for squat if i had the kill in the end. skill is great, but if you dont have the right gun for the right map, or the right situation, using one that isn't because you have "skill" doesnt make you better that time, it makes you the sucker, cuz the guy on the other end w/the right gun, on the right map is gonna get you. just my opinion...
