Claymore Tactics - Underutilized Weapon
Claymores are an excellent and underutilized weapon for the delayed rush, defender or camper. I can't tell you how many times I have nailed a rusher first round and had them keep coming back because they just KNOW they can get me and my stupid claymore. So, here are some suggestions if you want to mess with them and diversify your killing repoirtoire.

First Round - go ahead and put a claymore right out in the open covering naarow passages or doorways. They are so rarely used that no terrorist looks for them and they will run right into it, easy kill.

Second - Fifth Rounds - vary placement in the same area, instead of putting the claymore in the open, walk up to the doorway or archway and stand against the wall and face back inside. Place the claymore against the wall facing the interior, so the terrorist won't see it running in and when you blow it, it will take him in the back. Or, place one outside the opening, covering the entrance.

Sixth Round on - up to this point they have kept coming back because they are frustrated at being p^wned by a claymore, but will probably admit defeat (telling themselves what a noob you are and it isn't worth it). Move out and find a new spot, closer to the action, your claymore work is done and you will be amazed how long it takes someone to try that approach again.

There is something really satisfying about claymore kills, give it a try.

Please post your suggestions for claymore tactics.

I've found a useful way for clays. I like to sorta plan a retreat route (or do it on the fly), plant a claymore, then pop out on someone so they see me and then run, 9 times out of 10 they run to right where you just were. As a further means, you could also plant the clay on the fly and find a semi hidden spot and detonate if said enemy comes along that route.

Thats what I used to do in Socom 2, except I always did it on the fly. Worked like a charm :D

I think a good strategy as well when playing demo, is to have someone sit back and plant clays by the target... Too few a people actually wanna protect the wooden boxes. But this stops most attackers by staying out of sight and by taking them out when they are most vulnerable, planting the bomb. It also affords you a better strategy when taking on multiple tangos.

You can use them to defend controll points. Or defend bridges (harvester/blackwoods) from people or vehicals.

When using the ghille suit, people run by you all the time. So plant one behind you, so when some one runs past you, you dont have to get up.
If you can plant one behind you:
-facing you(remember to leave some space (unlike me)
-or of to the side facing behind you

Claymore kills are one of the best. But the best kind is when you plant it right behind someone, without them knowing. I've only done this once in a Blackwoods respawn. But I couldn't stop laughing.

Spookius, I think it just looks like that, but try standing behind it off to the side, and see if you die

I love claymores but--is it just me or are they not as much claymores as plain old bombs in socom 3? They seem to just blow up, instead of doing the fan-shaped explosion real claymores do. Unless the explosion I see is just simply the blast and the pellets are harder to see.

I have tried mining doorway exits with the claymores facing in/down the hall but for the most part in s3 they are not as effective. Blast radius isnt what it used to be and the kill isnt guaranteed. After you set them off everybody comes running anyway (enemies) because they love to kill "campers".

i like camping somewhere half way obvious and waiting for someone to come along. run through a doorway and hide somewhere, they will follow, sometimes even bring reinforcements. have claymores pre set inside the doorway. tada, easy and funny kill (i did this on harvester by the barn, they always ran in. i just sat outside the door and waited for someone to get close, and then id stand up, shoot so they definately noticed me, and ran inside and behind the hay. theyd run through the door and id claymore em. the smarter people go in one of the back ways, or throw a nade, but thats besides the point.

I really liked claymores in socom 2. I felt you could really use them and all, but ever since I tried them in s3 I cant get used to it. I dont know if its the bigger maps or what, they just dont have the same feel for me.

I think claymores are much easier to use in the new game. There are a lot more places to lay them that you can watch from a modest distance. Especially in maps like Citidal control points. The best thing to do is just lay them in a doorway and watch the other ways people can come from, from a concealed area.
