Camping 101 (by lilkilla)

Hello fellow Socom Members! Ive decided to take some time and give you a little camping 101. I hope you like it. If you have any ideas, post them here. By the way, Al may make this a sticky.

1. Getting a good spot to camp.

You'll need a good spot to camp of course. You need to pick one thats unexpected. Dont pick one that everyones gonna nade or a popular one. Pick one out of the ordinary that no one will nade or look at. Make sure you are very hard to see. Dont camp in a spot where part of your body is sticking out or you've blown your cover.

2. Dont have 2 or more people camp in the same spot.

Try not to have 8 people camping in one spot. If one grenade is thrown in your area, you're all screwed.

3. Keep your back against a wall.

Your probably going like WTF when you read that. Trust me. If your camping and your back isnt against something, You'll probably get shot in the back. If there is no way to get a good view and have your back against the wall, its okay, but be warned. You could get shot in the back.

4. Chose your weapon wisely.

You need a good weapon depending on how exactly your camping. If your hiding in grass, use a silenced weapon. If your hiding behind a wall, waiting for a person to turn that corner, use a shotgun, M14, or any other close range weapon. If your kinda far away and watching an area use a M16, sniper rifle ( if your that far), M4, or any other long range weapon.

5. When to come out your spot.

Usaully, if your enemy knows you are camping, they try to scare you. Dont fall for it. They only want you to come out your spot so they can get thier kill. Heres why you should get out your spot

A nade is coming toward you
Your getting shot at
Special reasons deping on game type. ex. Your a terrorist and the seals get the hostages.

6. Dont trap yourself.

Usually I see campers putting mines at the door behind them so no one will sneak up on them. Well this can be a good idea, but some people plant mines and they cant get out thier area. What happens if you have to get out? Youll take time to destroy your mines and give away your spot.

7. Dont camp in the same spot every game.

By 2 games, your opponents will catch on to your spot and take action. THey will eventually find a way through you and get thier kill.

8. Keep the mic open

Try to keep the mic open and tell your teamates to do so as well. If your camping and you see someone but you dont want to give away your spot, call him out as soon as you can. One good tip that works sometimes is if there are about 4 campers, get the campers to use a diffrent channel. They can all position at diffrent spots and call out enemies and the other campers can get them. This way, the campers can have constant communication, without the rushers constantly talk about where they are rushing when the campers could be setting up an ambush.

9. have a good view
How are you going to camp when you dont have a clue what you are looking at? You need to see as much as you can.

View

Make sure that, when you camp, you can see as much as possible of what is in front of you. For example, in grass, proning is not good because the brush obstructs your view. Try to get spots that cover the largest visual range while making you as invisible as possible.
10.When to move.

Movement

don't make any sudden movements, they catch the eye of any observers. Especially follow this rule if you are in water or brush. If repositioning or rotation is needed, do it slowly and calmly.
11.When to fire

Fire

don't fire unless you have a clear shot that will kill the guy; you don't want to give away your position.
12.Have your grenades out.

When your camping, have out your grenades so when people walk by, thier gun wont point up(Peoples guns point up when an enemy is near)

Whats the diffrence between camping and holding back?
Well, holding back is when you stay back and wait for the enemy to throw thier grenades. Camping is sitting in one spot waiting for enemies to come in your view and go in for the kill.

14.Use camo.

I hate how people use hidden or special characters just because they think its cool. Then when you dont use them, they laugh, call you a newb, and vote you off. Those stupid a-holes dont know a thing. Then they wonder why no matter where they hide, thet die like the stupid a-holes they are. When you're camping, pick the character that blends in with most of the level. For example, for Vigilance terrorists use terrorist 3. He is light brown and blend in with almost everything.

15.Lean.

In case you havent noticed, if you lean your body is lower. If you are in grass or hiding behind a low object, lean if you have to and you'll be pretty hard to see.

16.Use mines as a warning.

As I stated in tip 6, don'y trap yourself with mines. Still, you can use them to let your enemy know your coming. Heres a neat trick that works when your a seal.Plant claymores that you cant see,but its near your camping spot and terrorists can see them. If a terrorists sees the claymore, he will get scared and blow it up. This lets you know a terrorists is nearby.

17.Claymore camping
Remember, Seals don't have mines, but they have claymores which can be better in a way if you think about it. Terrorists dont have to run right over them. You can just detonate them when you see them near the claymore. Remember, terrorists dont really look for claymore because they're not used much. Still, dont place them out where they are easy to see. They'll blow them up just like in tip 15.

18.Smoke grenades

A lot of people say there is no use for smoke grenades. WELL FIND A USE!
There are many creative things you can do with smoke. For instance in enowapi, everyone is inside the terrorist base and you need to move to a new camping spot inside the base, but there is this one annoying sniper in the tower that just wont move. Throw smoke in the snipers view and run through that smoke and slide down the cliff. Then go all the way around and go inside the base the other way. Congrats! YOU'VE JUST TRICKED OUT A SNIPER! Remember, use all your knowledge to do creative things.

19.Dont forget your in third person.
Remember, your not in first person. You dont have to peek around corners to see around them. You can see around the wall by just standing next right on it. Third person can have its disadvantages though thats why zipper was kind enough to offer us a first person view. If your in tall grass and you cant see, go to the edge of the grass and switch to first person and VOILA! Youve gotthe perfect view.

20.When do SEALS camp?

I just thought about how terrorists are the main campers. This tip is for the SEAL men out there. Heres when SEALS can camp.

Demolition when terrorist have the bomb.
In breach, you can camp and kill those jumpers.
In Escort, dont forget the time is on your side.
Getting kills in suppression

21.The Sub machine guns.

The sub machine guns are very small and if your camping in a tight spot, they can come in handy. For instance, Socom veterans have good eyes and can even see guns sticking out of grass. If you have a sub machine gun, those things wont even be bigger than your body. You have to know how to use them though. They have extremely weak bullets but fire extremmly fast. So aim at the head. The bullets are so fast one will eventually hit the head.

22. Keep your gun at headlevel.

Practice learning exactlly what headlevel is. Aim there as much as you can. You can get some easy kills when you pop out your little spot. Just remember, when camping at elevated positions, its pretty hard to get your gun at headlevel.

23.Recoil

In case you dont know, recoil is how your gun raises its aim when you shoot. Try to memorize and master each guns recoil if it has one. If a gun has recoil dont aim for the head. Aim lower and your gun will rise to the head.

24.Silenced camping

I highly recomend silenced camping only in levels with lots of grass. You can do it as good in other levels though. In grassy levels like ruins, stay in grass and dont shoot if your right next to your enemy. In regular levels just do it in a hard to see area.

25.Cheap shot
When camping if possible, wait for your enemy to run past you. Then get your easy kill. He will take time to turn around and by that time you should have killed him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well thats it for now. I hope you guys liked my tips. If you have any ideas that I should add, post them here. This is now the complete version.

Another thing

When you hide behind a low wall or other such obstruction, lean to the right or left to get lower and hide more effectively (i heard this from someone else...i just dont remember who. I want to say al giordino, but im not sure)

Good job guys. Yeah you probably heard that from me. I actually think that Zipper made it specifically like that, so if you crouch and lean right, your head is lower than most walls/balconies/grass. It's just odd that all those things are usually the exact same height, and just barely taller than your guy when you crouch/lean. So I think they did that on purpose, yet I hardly see people doing it. I do it all the time though, I'm always leaning.

Good post.

good job lilkilla, a worthy follow up to Al and Lu's rushing counterpart. A lot of the stuff u say is truly very useful. For one, leaning isnt used enough. it heps! A LOT! I have found the funnest way to camp on Xroads wit my friends and it's a great tactic ive never seen anyone else use. As a seal, if u get an HK5SD, and go to the direct left of ur spawn, into a tiny little dark indent in the wall, u can sit here and lean so that ur HK just barely appears around the corner. As soon as terrs appear, u can let loose a clip at them and they dance around terrified! its hilarious! From my experience, the only sure way for the other team to stop you (besides sneaking up behind, but u got ur teammates to help with that ) is if the have a sniper. Trust me, unless there is a sniper who comes over to that side and picks off ur tiny head, the stubborn terrorists, no matter HOW many times u do this, will always come back the same way, and get killed AGAIN, because if u lean on that corner, its near impossible to kill you other than freak headshots.

Also, as lilkilla said, use smoke. I dont use it too often myself but it has saved my arse on many occasions. One of the best things to use smoke for is distractions. I played a FH once as a terr, and i was in the upper hostage building. A seal was downstairs and he kept trying to come up but id pop out with the M3 and scare him away. Afraid he'd soon get me, i just chucked some smoke on the stairs and ran out one of the top doors. I came inside the bottom, snuck inside that room and saw my seal friend with his back to the wall all the way across the room aiming at the smoke.
He must have been afraid id come running through it with the shotty.
And thats definately something to keep in mind: if a player has u in a position where he's sure hes gunna get you, and then u somehow trick him and he loses sight of you. HE PANICS. I did this manouvre to a few other seals later, since it worked so well the first time, and they always freak when the smoke goes up! I've seen them jsut spray whole clips into the cloud, throw nades, and once i had a guy actually turn around and run out of the building!! Trust me, you people: if you play socom like the mindgame that it is, instead of relying entirely on ur fighting skills, you'll get kills! Remember, a terrified and disoriented enemy is almost as good as a dead one (plus u get to kill him! :D )

Hope some people try these 2 strategies i love so much, no matter how smart the enemies seem, THEY WORK

One thing I really agree with from the original post was to choose a gun that best fits your situation. Too many people get comfortable with one gun and use it in almost any situation. Use what will work best at a given time, being an sd, m60, or sniper.
