Ok, I know you have probility have the problem figured out. Do you have a router at home that you use. If you do you have to make a new network config. I went to play at a buddys house and my Network config is set with my router. I hade to make a new network config for his house. As i do with all other friends houses.<

What hotel was it you were having an issue with, and which ones were ok? Is it a certain chain that is having a difficulty? If it's a certain chain, either that chain has a specific internet provider they use that does not allow gaming, they have an extensive firewall system, or they limit the bandwidth to each unit of the hotel to keep users from maxing out the internet system, in which case you won't be able to log on. Limited bandwidth times out SOCOM and doesn't allow you to play games of that magnitude.

Most college campuses do this to keep people from gaming online with big games and maxing out the service, as well as cutting down the downloads of giant files (i.e. music files). I should know because I am a college student and my on-campus friends have issues with this.

Most hotels have close a lot of ports in their free internet access. We just set up a free internet access at my work for visitors and we close a lot of ports and even some web sites to restrict their connections.

yeah the problem is that the hotels fire wall is restricting you they would have to disable it for you to get on but im sure they wont do that cause then all the other people in the hotel would be at risk. so i guess you will just have to try to find a hotel that it will work at. If you ever find any drury inns i know you can get on in them i stayed in one of them for like 2 weeks why i was helping my mom move in to her new house in new mexico

I think that Comfort Suites is one of the chains that do not allow you to play socom because of their firewall issues.
